K9 Lorax retired from the Pennsylvania State Police after working for almost five years. Lorax specialized in Explosive Detection and has responded to threats and investigations all throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The coolest thing he ever did at work was played with, and posed for pictures with, former Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan. K9 Lorax spends his days playing ball in the yard, taking walks, and snoozing.
Working K9s perform a variety of occupations alongside their Handlers ensuring our public is safe from threats or danger, along with protecting our country domestically and abroad. They are typically classified as equipment with their medical needs NO longer funded once their service is completed. Often times they have accelerated health issues like hip dysplasia or PTSD as a result of their years in the field.
Paws of Honor is a nonprofit providing continued quality routine and specialized veterinary care to ALL retired Military and Law Enforcement K9s no matter the department, agency, or branch of service at no cost to the Handler who becomes financially responsible for them upon retirement. Through Paws of Honor’s Veterinary Affiliates continued medical care is provided to each retired K9 enrolled in our Veterinary Care Program.
