K9 Mala served as an explosive detection canine from 2020-2023 with TSA in San Francisco. Although she had a very short career, she was requested to assist multiple federal agencies in high profile events all over the Bay Area and assisted her teammates in Portland. K9 Mala was always eager to attend any trainings she could get to! She brings endless joy and laughter to every person she encounters as she is all love and is very very silly, but when it came down to work, she was laser focused and always on point. K9 Mala's favorite thing to do is run & play fetch with her new sister, K9 Cila, and her brother, retired K9 Ryker. Mala loves to go to her brother's toy bin and take ALL of his toys out and chew up as many as possible. She also really loves her new queen size bed & a sofa that she'll share with her mommies on occasion.

"Mala is the happiest and silliest dog with the biggest personality. She can be sassy at times, mostly cause she knows she's right and won't take no for an answer, but she has brought so much joy and love to my life. I'm eternally grateful for all she has taught me over the last few years. She has filled my life with love and so much laughter and I'm so glad to be her mom!"

Working K9s perform a variety of occupations alongside their Handlers ensuring our public is safe from threats or danger, along with protecting our country domestically and abroad. They are typically classified as equipment with their medical needs NO longer funded once their service is completed. Often times they have accelerated health issues like hip dysplasia or PTSD as a result of their years in the field.

Paws of Honor is a nonprofit providing continued quality routine and specialized veterinary care to ALL retired Military and Law Enforcement K9s no matter the department, agency, or branch of service at no cost to the Handler who becomes financially responsible for them upon retirement. Through Paws of Honor’s Veterinary Affiliates continued medical care is provided to each retired K9 enrolled in our Veterinary Care Program.
