K9 Matti came to his handler, Officer Dunn, from Holland by way of California. Prior to being partnered with one another K9 Matti trained for and certified with a PH1 title in Holland in KNPV. Upon being partnered with one another they trained and certified in patrol work and narcotics detection. K9 Matti was successfully deployed to assist officers in searching for and apprehending suspects, and in locating dangerous narcotics. He retired to his sole handler, Officer Dunn, at the end of his career.
Working K9s perform a variety of occupations alongside their Handlers ensuring our public is safe from threats or danger, along with protecting our country domestically and abroad. They are typically classified as equipment with their medical needs NO longer funded once their service is completed. Often times they have accelerated health issues like hip dysplasia or PTSD as a result of their years in the field.
Paws of Honor is a nonprofit providing continued quality routine and specialized veterinary care to ALL retired Military and Law Enforcement K9s no matter the department, agency, or branch of service at no cost to the Handler who becomes financially responsible for them upon retirement. Through Paws of Honor’s Veterinary Affiliates continued medical care is provided to each retired K9 enrolled in our Veterinary Care Program.
