Nitro came from Croatia along with several other GSPs. He was the only one that excelled in his craft and became well kown as one of the best explosive detection K9s in the county. He worked primarily in the county and conducted several dignitary and government VIP protective searches over his 12 year career. He quickly became a favorite of the Secret service because of his drive and exceptional detection ability. In his off time he is an avid swimmer especially in the summer and he loves any treat and praise he gets.
Working K9s perform a variety of occupations alongside their Handlers ensuring our public is safe from threats or danger, along with protecting our country domestically and abroad. They are typically classified as equipment with their medical needs NO longer funded once their service is completed. Often times they have accelerated health issues like hip dysplasia or PTSD as a result of their years in the field.
Paws of Honor is a nonprofit providing continued quality routine and specialized veterinary care to ALL retired Military and Law Enforcement K9s no matter the department, agency, or branch of service at no cost to the Handler who becomes financially responsible for them upon retirement. Through Paws of Honor’s Veterinary Affiliates continued medical care is provided to each retired K9 enrolled in our Veterinary Care Program.
