Rex was born in Slovakia in Sept, 2013. He came to the US in Oct, 2014, where he was paired up with Officer Nicholas Ague from the South Londonderry Twp Police in Pennsylvania. Rex was South Londonderry's first K9 officer. Rex and his handler were certified as a dual-purpose police K9 unit (Narcotics detection and Patrol work) through the North American Police Work Dog Assoc. Less than a year into Rex's career, he located over $20k worth of narcotics hidden in the engine compartment of a vehicle that was stopped for a traffic violation. Rex was responsible for locating tens of thousands of dollars worth of narcotics during his career. He was also responsible for assisting in locating several suspects and missing persons. When Rex was not on duty, he enjoyed spending time with his handler and family, and his "younger brother" Benny, (a min-pin). Rex also enjoys patrolling his back yard and making sure anyone walking by knows he is there. Rex retired at the age on 9 in on Dec 31, 2023 after 8 years of service. He now enjoys his retirement at his handler's home, along with the family, pets, and his handler's new K9 partner.

Working K9s perform a variety of occupations alongside their Handlers ensuring our public is safe from threats or danger, along with protecting our country domestically and abroad. They are typically classified as equipment with their medical needs NO longer funded once their service is completed. Often times they have accelerated health issues like hip dysplasia or PTSD as a result of their years in the field.

Paws of Honor is a nonprofit providing continued quality routine and specialized veterinary care to ALL retired Military and Law Enforcement K9s no matter the department, agency, or branch of service at no cost to the Handler who becomes financially responsible for them upon retirement. Through Paws of Honor’s Veterinary Affiliates continued medical care is provided to each retired K9 enrolled in our Veterinary Care Program.
