K9 Sanne is an 8 year old female Belgian Malinois born in Veldhoven, Netherlands in 2015. She began working in 2017 and retired in 2021 after 4 years of service for the National Security Agency. During her working career she was a single purpose explosive detection canine who swept approximately 90,000 vehicles attempting to gain access into some of the most secure places in the country. Sanne has worked alongside other county, state and federal teams for training as well as real world situations. She has traveled for work all over the country to places like Hawaii, Utah, Georgia, Texas, Virginia, Washington D.C and Indiana, nearly totalling 25 percent of her working career. She also participated in multiple briefings, tours, and office visits for visitors and agency affiliates and personnel. Our team was acknowledged and presented with an award from the Executive Director of the National Security Agency for our work with the high school work study program. Outside of work, she still has great energy playing catch and chasing the neighbor kids around as they are playing sports in her backyard. When she is not running around the backyard or going on long walks, she is curled up on her cushy, oversized dog bed with her Kong laying right next to her. She is such a sweet family member who is also loved and adored by all.

Working K9s perform a variety of occupations alongside their Handlers ensuring our public is safe from threats or danger, along with protecting our country domestically and abroad. They are typically classified as equipment with their medical needs NO longer funded once their service is completed. Often times they have accelerated health issues like hip dysplasia or PTSD as a result of their years in the field.

Paws of Honor is a nonprofit providing continued quality routine and specialized veterinary care to ALL retired Military and Law Enforcement K9s no matter the department, agency, or branch of service at no cost to the Handler who becomes financially responsible for them upon retirement. Through Paws of Honor’s Veterinary Affiliates continued medical care is provided to each retired K9 enrolled in our Veterinary Care Program.
