K9 Tango worked for the Fairfax County Police Department as a patrol/narcotic detection canine from 2020 to 2023 when his handler retired. In his time patrolling Fairfax County, K9 Tango was responsible for numerous criminal apprehensions, including one where he was awarded a Bronze Medal of Valor! Now retired, Tango loves to play with his two younger brothers at home, Jericho and Snoopy! He still gets excited to take trips back to the Fairfax County Canine Training Center for a nice bath and a game of fetch!

Working K9s perform a variety of occupations alongside their Handlers ensuring our public is safe from threats or danger, along with protecting our country domestically and abroad. They are typically classified as equipment with their medical needs NO longer funded once their service is completed. Often times they have accelerated health issues like hip dysplasia or PTSD as a result of their years in the field.

Paws of Honor is a nonprofit providing continued quality routine and specialized veterinary care to ALL retired Military and Law Enforcement K9s no matter the department, agency, or branch of service at no cost to the Handler who becomes financially responsible for them upon retirement. Through Paws of Honor’s Veterinary Affiliates continued medical care is provided to each retired K9 enrolled in our Veterinary Care Program.
