K9 Tank proudly served as a single purpose Explosive Detection Canine for the United States Department of State from 2014 through 2018. Tank's most memorable moments serving at the State Department include searching a piece of the Berlin Wall for the National Museum of American Diplomacy and participating in National Night Out events. From 2018 until his retirement in mid-2019, Tank continued to serve as an Explosive Detection Canine at over a dozen Federal Installations in the D.C. area and at the Kennedy Center where the highlight of his career came when he swept the Red Carpet for the Kennedy Center Honors. Tank has not lost his drive in retirement and continues to inspect all packages and vehicles at his handler's home. He also loves playing in his backyard and snuggling on the couch with mom & dad.
Paws of Honor has joined forces with Hurricane’s Heroes to help retired Military and Law Enforcement working K9s across the country receive the veterinary care they deserve!
Working K9s perform a variety of occupations alongside their Handlers ensuring our public is safe from threats or danger, along with protecting our country domestically and abroad. They are typically classified as equipment with their medical needs NO longer funded once their service is completed. Often times they have accelerated health issues like hip dysplasia or PTSD as a result of their years in the field.
Paws of Honor is a nonprofit providing continued quality routine and specialized veterinary care to ALL retired Military and Law Enforcement K9s no matter the department, agency, or branch of service at no cost to the Handler who becomes financially responsible for them upon retirement. Through Paws of Honor’s Veterinary Affiliates continued medical care is provided to each retired K9 enrolled in our Veterinary Care Program.
