Canine “Tex” served the county of Frederick, VA for nearly 7 years. Tex was a dual purpose patrol/tracking and narcotics K9. Tex loved to go to work and serve the community and assist other agencies in the area on a daily basis. Even on his off days he would run around his handlers cruiser in hopes to go to work. When Tex is not working he loves to play and hang out with two of his female companion Shepards (Mia/Millie). He loves nothing more than going to retrieve his kong & go drop it in front of them so they’ll play too. But let’s not forget one his most favorite things. He loves his head and chest rubs! When Tex isn’t protecting at work or even letting his family know someone is outside their house. He is one of the best partners and family companions they've ever had!!

Working K9s perform a variety of occupations alongside their Handlers ensuring our public is safe from threats or danger, along with protecting our country domestically and abroad. They are typically classified as equipment with their medical needs NO longer funded once their service is completed. Often times they have accelerated health issues like hip dysplasia or PTSD as a result of their years in the field.

Paws of Honor is a nonprofit providing continued quality routine and specialized veterinary care to ALL retired Military and Law Enforcement K9s no matter the department, agency, or branch of service at no cost to the Handler who becomes financially responsible for them upon retirement. Through Paws of Honor’s Veterinary Affiliates continued medical care is provided to each retired K9 enrolled in our Veterinary Care Program.
