K9 Tina-J was born on March 22, 2007 and was certified as a Narcotic Detector Dog for US Customs and Border Protection Field Operations around July 2008. K9 Tina-J was assigned to her handler in December 2009 and transferred to the Miami Field Office of US Customs and Border Protection Field Operations where she was certified as a Narcotic Human Detector Dog. They were deployed to the Southwest border of Lukeville, AZ for 60 days in 2010, and her performance was excellent.

The majority of K9 Tina-J's career was performed at Miami International Airport with short assignments to the Miami Seaport, Port Everglades, Fort Lauderdale Airport, and the US Coast Guard. K9 Tina-J was an outstanding working police canine and has the creds to prove it! Just to name a few, she had 32 arrests, 8 vehicles seized, 48 marijuana seizures totaling 651.112 kilograms, and 6 cocaine seizures totaling 1,001.964 kilograms (yes, that's thousand).

K9 Tina-J retired on March 11, 2016 and currently lives in Davie, Florida with her handler. She is still active, loyal, protective, and the best friend for her handlers son, Oliver, who is autistic. She also loves being lounged on and pet by her handlers daughter, Ayla.

Paws of Honor has joined forces with Hurricane’s Heroes to help retired Military and Law Enforcement working K9s across the country receive the veterinary care they deserve!

Working K9s perform a variety of occupations alongside their Handlers ensuring our public is safe from threats or danger, along with protecting our country domestically and abroad. They are typically classified as equipment with their medical needs NO longer funded once their service is completed. Often times they have accelerated health issues like hip dysplasia or PTSD as a result of their years in the field.

K9 Hurricane served honorably with the Secret Service protecting our nation's primary symbol of freedom and government, The White House. He stood guard alongside his Handler patrolling the grounds ensuring the President's peace of mind running the country. He chased down intruders intending harm and has titanium teeth as a reflection of his service.

Paws of Honor is a nonprofit providing continued quality routine and specialized veterinary care to ALL retired Military and Law Enforcement K9s no matter the department, agency, or branch of service at no cost to the Handler who becomes financially responsible for them upon retirement. Through Paws of Honor’s Veterinary Affiliates continued medical care is provided to each retired K9 enrolled in our Veterinary Care Program.

Paws of Honor is proud to showcase K9 Hurricane’s brave service and the legacy created through Hurricane’s Heroes that will impact K9s and their Handlers for decades to come by making veterinary funding possible supporting the retired working K9s enrolled in Paws of Honor’s Veterinary Care Program through The Paws of Honor Sponsorship Program.

Though K9 Hurricane had a stellar and remarkable career serving this great nation, he too retired without the benefit of continued veterinary care. Together Paws of Honor and Hurricane’s Heroes intend to make a difference by teaming up to make continued veterinary care possible for these most deserving K9s!
