Toto is a 9 year old German Shepherd who served for 7 years as a Patrol / Explosive Detector Dog-Enhanced in the US Army. He was stationed in Fort Wainwright, Alaska, before being sent to the US Army PEDD-E school, followed by a deployment to Afghanistan in support of 1st Special Forces Group, the 82nd Airborne Division, and the 495th Romanian Parachutist Battalion. Following this deployment, Toto PCS'ed with his handler to Fort Myer, Virginia, where he eventually retired.

Working K9s perform a variety of occupations alongside their Handlers ensuring our public is safe from threats or danger, along with protecting our country domestically and abroad. They are typically classified as equipment with their medical needs NO longer funded once their service is completed. Often times they have accelerated health issues like hip dysplasia or PTSD as a result of their years in the field.

Paws of Honor is a nonprofit providing continued quality routine and specialized veterinary care to ALL retired Military and Law Enforcement K9s no matter the department, agency, or branch of service at no cost to the Handler who becomes financially responsible for them upon retirement. Through Paws of Honor’s Veterinary Affiliates continued medical care is provided to each retired K9 enrolled in our Veterinary Care Program.
