Community Markets Inc. (CMI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in Charles Town, WV whose mission is to connect locally grown food to families in need. All of CMI's programs accomplish: 1) feeding thousands of hungry Appalachian families with farm fresh food from local farms, 2) supporting West Virginian farmers, and 3) increasing food security in the Eastern Panhandle of WV.

Join us as we continue to feed thousands of food insecure families in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia with healthy food grown by local farmers. 2023 saw a substantial increase in the number of families fed through the Food Box Giveaway Program and two mobile farmers markets thanks to a partnership with UniCare that allowed for the purchase of a refrigerated trailer and pick up truck. The increase in demand for local food has meant that CMI has nearly outgrown the capacity of its current 8.5'x7' refrigerated trailer, creating the need for a larger refrigerated trailer. CMI has identified an energy efficient 6'x16' refrigerator/freezer trailer that is built specifically for mobile cold storage. The trailer has a 110-volt electrical hook up, meaning it can be plugged into any building or generator with ease, allowing fresh food to be kept cold in even remote locations. The City of Charles Town committed $10,000 towards the total trailer purchase price of $40,000, but requires CMI to raise the additional $30,000 by July 2024 or else they will require CMI to return the money. As of December 15, 2023, an additional $3,500 has been raised by dozens of individuals, leaving $26,500 to be raised in order to purchase the trailer. Anything fundraised over and above the cost of the trailer will be used to support the overall mission of CMI which includes feeding hungry families in WV with healthy WV grown food.

Your donation towards buying the refrigerated trailer is partially matched by United Way of the Eastern Panhandle through the Unity Campaign and is completely tax deductible. Help get the refrigerated trailer on the road so that more families are fed with healthy, farm fresh foods, more farmers are supported and able to grow more local food, and so that food security can increase in our communities and around the Eastern Panhandle.
