United Way of the Eastern Panhandle
The mission of Stars that Shine is to offer support to girls ages 12-20 through empowerment programs, education services, peer-support groups, mentorship, internships, scholarships, and innovative programs that encourage personal growth.
In the Eastern Panhandle, there is a pressing need to address the multifaceted challenges faced by teenage girls, encompassing self-esteem issues, mental health struggles, unhealthy relationships, and period poverty. Our primary clients, teenage girls in this community, require targeted support and resources to navigate these challenges and cultivate a foundation for a healthier and more empowered future.
Funding from the Unity Campaign will support the Girl Empowerment Conference and Summer Camp of Stars that Shine.
Girl Empowerment Conference is held at Blue Ridge CTC with the following components:
- Interactive workshops and panel discussions featuring accomplished women from various fields, providing insights into diverse career paths.
- Educational sessions on maintaining feminine hygiene and health, including expert talks on puberty, menstrual hygiene, and reproductive health.
- Distribution of informational resources and products to promote well-being and confidence.
-Hair Care: Expert-led sessions on hair care techniques, styles, and embracing natural beauty.
- Makeup and Skincare: Practical demonstrations, tips, and advice on age-appropriate makeup and skincare routines.
- Health and Wellness: Engaging sessions on physical fitness, healthy living, and positive body image.
Our goal is to inspire and empower teenage girls to pursue their passions and overcome challenges.
