Dr. Donna Heston Hage was named as Superintendent of Marion County Schools on July 1, 2021. She started her career in education as an English teacher at Grafton High School for 11 years, where she graduated high school in 1991. She earned her doctorate from Marshall University in December 2016. She holds a Masters in Special Education and a Bachelors in English Education from West Virginia University.   

Completing her 27th year in public education this year, she served fourteen years as Harrison County Schools Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources & Policy and Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction. Prior to that she was a school administrator at Liberty and Robert C. Byrd high schools in Harrison County and Ritchie County High School. 

Dr. Hage was recently elected to the board of the Tygart Valley United Way and serves as a board member of the Marion County Chamber of Commerce and Marion County Senior Citizen Board. Hage has an 11-year-old, Heston Rane, and 9-year-old, Magnus. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, writing, hiking, kayaking, collecting vinyl records, and road trips.

 

Rev. Larry Buckland is the pastor of LIFE United Methodist Church in Fairmont. Larry is a native of McDowell County, he graduated from West Virginia University and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. Before Larry was appointed in Fairmont he served as pastor in Ravenswood and Morgantown, West Virginia. He has been in Fairmont since 2006. He was a member of the 25th graduating class of Leadership Marion. Larry’s passion for the community is exhibited through his work and partnerships with the community. He serves on the Boards of the Tygart Valley United Way, Marion County Child Advocacy Center, Fairmont State University’s Wesley Foundation, and volunteers at the Disability Action Center, Marion County Communities of Shalom, and the Union Mission. Larry is appointed by the City of Fairmont as a Commissioner for the Human Rights Commission. He is inspired daily by his wife Christi, son Trey, and daughter Catherine Grace. In his free time, Larry enjoys playing and watching sports with his family and friends.

 

Katie Byers, a returning choreographer from 2021, has over 20 years of experience in various styles of dance. Originally from Statesboro, Georgia, she attended Georgia Southern University where she was a member of the university’s dance team and graduated with a bachelor’s in public relations. Katie was also a part of the local Dancing with the Stars competition back home in Georgia, where she choreographed and danced for 5 years. Katie and her family moved to West Virginia in 2019 and currently resides in Fairmont, WV. Katie currently works at Fairmont State as the Director of Alumni Relations.
