I am coming up on my ten year diagnosis anniversary! Ten years ago, I didn't realize a life detour was coming my way. It was very devastating in a lot of ways and a blessing in a lot of ways. I was able to spend time looking at my life and what changes I needed to make should I make it through this. I wasn't sure in the beginning. But here I am. I was lucky enough to be chosen for a week long vacation with Little Pink Houses of Hope in 2014. What an amazing week of being taken care of, being shown love and support and meeting amazing women and their families going through the same thing I was going through. I want to help more women have this feeling of love and support. I want more women to be able to benefit from this amazing organization!

My husband and I were chosen for the New Smyrna Beach Retreat in November, 2017. I was diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, de novo, in March, 2015 and given 6 months to live. The retreat was such a relief - no financial burden. Meeting others in the same position as myself. Bonding with the families. Laughing. Smiling. The peaceful feeling, the activities, it was all just a huge weight off our shoulders for one week in time. I want others to experience this peace, this companionship, the fun. It is a great feeling to know you aren't alone in what you're going through.

I am a breast cancer survivor. I have been through the surgeries, the treatments of chemo and radiation, and I have watched friends and family go through the same thing. Cancer is an evil that can suck life from even the healthiest of people. I want to raise awareness and funds for others who have been through and are going through this same illness. My hope is that each person who struggles through breast cancer will remember how precious their life is, know they are loved, and remember that cancer does not define them.

LPHOH is one of my favorite charitable organizations. I was a recipient of a vacation and it meant so much for our family during a very difficult time. I love that LPHOH demonstrates all the good hearts out there and we all need a reminder there is more good than bad in this world. Doing good makes you feel good and I'm happy to do my part to get more families connected with a LPHOH vacation.

Why am I here? How did I get here? And how do I turn my pain into purpose? Hi! My name is Emily Wolfe and I am a 7 year breast cancer advocate and an 11 month cancer survivor. I became involved with breast cancer advocacy after my mother-in-law Lori underwent treatment for her own breast cancer diagnosis in 2015. I was drawn to the pink bubble and knew I was meant to be apart of the fight. I was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer in 2021 at the age of 29. With 3 small daughters at home I underwent 16 chemotherapies, a double mastectomy, 33 radiations, endured Breast Implant Illness, and am now explanted to flat awaiting my final surgery. Breast cancer has been hard, unbearable at times, but every time I want to give up I remember all the fighters that have gone before us, the thrivers, and those who will be diagnosed. Little Pink sent our family to OBX in May of 2021. I was able to take a week “recharge” after finishing my AC chemo. The gift of time spent outside a doctors office and not talking about cancer was indescribably perfect. Our family wants to help ensure other families and couples have the same gift. So why am I here? How did I get here? I believe I am here to help write someone’s survival guide and I was sent here to make a difference! Please help me.

I love what this organization does to make a difference in the lives of those who do not have the time to think of themselves. Cancer takes away confidence, energy, drive and self esteem. The 'c' word was something I never expected to hear. When I did, it took some time to even be able to say the word cancer. I am a breast cancer thriver and so grateful that my journey allowed me to become a grandma on the day I completed radiation. Having breast cancer taught me that cancer does not define me, I defined my journey. I'm committed to raising breast cancer awareness and the importance of supporting people through their cancer journey and when I heard about Little Pink Houses of Hope I was so impressed with what an incredible gift this is to those with breast cancer I wanted to be a part of this beautiful effort in some way. Going pink will hopefully make people think in a GENEROUS way!

In October 2021, I attended a Little Pink retreat as a participant and met four other wonderful women with breast cancer and their significant others. I had a week where I could escape from the daily reminders of my incurable illness and be pampered and experience many unique activities. The best part of my trip was the part that couldn't be bought, the bonding with other couples over this unfortunate sisterhood that we share. I want to give this opportunity to escape to others, especially those who can't afford it. Also, if I can increase awareness of Little Pink Houses of Hope, then that will also hopefully get others involved as volunteers and participants.

Thanks to LPHOH, my family and I were able to go to Orange Beach for an entire week a couple of years ago. While there, we not only experienced some of the most wonderful and long lasting memories but we also gained some truly incredible life long friendships. Our husbands got to chat and share their experiences. Our children met others whose lives reflected theirs and, even though they live all over the US, they STILL keep in touch. Recently, one of our friends passed away. She fought so long and so hard, all while making it her mission to build happy memories for her children, and while leaving a legacy of kindness and compassion with all of those that she ever touched. It is absolutely not fair that we are without this incredible woman, Amanda Westhouse, but we never would’ve missed the opportunity to meet her for anything in the world. I want to be sure that other families have the same opportunities and Little Pink Houses Of Hope is the perfect way for this to happen.

If you have a few moments I’d like to share why Little pink will always and forever be my favorite nonprofit. This is my why, my story… Diagnosed at age 33. After the craziness of COVID and my first experience with breast cancer (my mother in law) the last thing I expected was the call. Tonya you have Breast Cancer, I pretty sure all I said was a nasty 4 letter word. I remember it like it was yesterday, my husband and I run a shop together, his cousin stopped by to say hello. My husband says love ya cousin but we have to go Tonya has a doctors appointment. It shattered my heart to tell him, honey we do not need to go to the doctors, they called. Previously to COVID I had not heard of anyone getting a cancer diagnosis over the phone. I could see the anticipation and slight excitement on his face as he must have thought, if the appointment is canceled it must not be cancer. Right there mid-day, I had to break his heart. The next steps are a blur there were a whole lot of appointments, schedules, tests to prepare for treatments. The weeks leading up to treatments were the worst. 16 rounds of chemotherapy and a DMX later I felt broken and shattered. I found Little pink houses of hope, through some bored internet searching while on months and months of chemotherapy. A free trip for me and my family just because I have cancer?? No way it cannot be true, it must be a scam, what do they want, it is a timeshare? Nope none of the above, they truly just want to help families reconnect during their time of need. They have 20 + retreat destinations and each location they try to accommodate 8-10 families. That’s a lot of people impacted by the kindness of this one organization each year. The week long trip Little pink provided my family and was a blessing. I had no idea the importance of that trip, the beautiful people I would met during this experience and I will forever be grateful to Little Pink. Please consider helping me raise some money to give back to them. My goal is $1500 that is the average cost little pink pays per family.

I was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in January ‘08. I thought I did everything possible to prevent ever having it again. I had surgery, chemo, radiation and 5 years on preventative medications, but in July ‘18, I was diagnosed with metastasized breast cancer in my bones. The reason I’m doing this is because in October 2020 Little pink houses of Hope blessed me and my family a wonderful vacation in New Smyrna Beach, FL. Every family that fights this horrible disease deserves one week where they can enjoy their life without worrying about cancer. I want to give other families that little peace of mind.

September 22, 2021 is the day my life changed forever. “You have breast cancer!” Our family was devastated. I was in shock and didn’t know how I was going to get thru this. Pink Ribbons in October is usually all that people know about breast cancer. We didn’t ease into treatment we went full steam ahead. 16 chemo treatments, 25 radiation treatments, 1 case of sepsis and 9 surgeries. This was overwhelming to me. We survived on auto pilot. The emotional rollercoaster created chaos for our family. Cancer doesn’t just affect the patient; it affects the whole family. Little Pink Houses of Hope provided a free retreat in New Smyrna Beach, Florida for my family. We were blessed beyond measure. Little Pink has blessed our family on this painful journey. They have a saying “Hope is where my story begins” I am getting involved with the organization and I would appreciate your support!

I was diagnosed with Stage 3 inflammatory breast cancer at the start of covid, as a 38 year old newly married mom of a 6 year old and two teenage bonus daughters. It rocked our world upside down. Only six months earlier, I had a physical done and was told that I had the body of a teenager - perfect vitals & stats. Going through active treatment during covid was very isolating, so much so that my husband didn't even meet my oncologist until 1.5 years after diagnosis, simply because he wasn't even allowed in the building due to covid protocols. My Little Pink retreat to Myrtle Beach in October 2021 was absolutely life changing for me. It allowed me to connect to other survivors for the first time ever, but not only that, my son and husband finally had a tribe too. Other care givers and children who had also been through the same things - we were all on the same playing field, no need for explanations. I'm eternally grateful for this opportunity and wildly dedicated to it's continued success.

As a Little Pink board member I have seen the impact we have on families across the nation. Everyone has been affected by breast cancer in one way or another. In 2018 I lost my mother-in-law to breast cancer and the following year a good friend passed after a 20 year battle with this disease. I am doing this not only to honor their memory but also because I have seen how our organization has brought hope to the families and survivors we serve. Last year Our Family was chosen to participate in a LPHOH retreat at Myrtle Beach , SC. The experience was life changing, we all connected with other families, made lasting memories and most importantly had a vacation away from Cancer. I often talk about this retreat because I found my people, ladies that just understand what I’m going through. These ladies have become my family. I want to help raise funds for this organization so others (families )can experience this as well. Thank you Little Pink houses of the opportunities you provide to breast cancer patients. I am supporting Little Pink Houses of Hope because of their mission of providing family retreats in beautiful locations for breast cancer survivors and fighters and their families. No one fights this disease alone - "co-survivors" are fighting as well - to keep up the spirits and strengths of their family members who have been personally touched by breast cancer. I know when I was fighting, my baby girl and my husband were right there, kissing my bald head, holding me and the trash can while I suffered through nausea, praying for me, telling me it would be okay, getting my meds together, helping me with my drains and just being there. It was a scary time. I felt like I saw an alien stranger when I looked in the mirror and wanted to get away from it all. Little Pink made that happen by gifting us with a retreat to the beaches of North Carolina where we were able to connect, participate in family and group activities such as yoga, date night out, etc. The kids connected as well doing paddle boarding and other fun activities. It gave me just enough rest to keep fighting and drew our family closer together. I want that experience for EVERY woman fighting this battle and her family. Raising money for this cause will help make that dream a reality.
