Duke Gonzalez

K9 Duke is a 6 1/2 year old German Short Haired Pointer. He served honorably with the Massachusetts State Police for 5 years. Duke is a 94/C certified K9 specializing in the detection of heroin, methamphetamine, and cocaine. He worked with his handler Trooper Jessica Gonzalez for the Troop F Detective Unit at Boston Logan International Airport. He was responsible for detecting dozens of kilos of illegal narcotics and millions of dollars of illegal drug proceeds. Working at the airport was an exciting and fast paced environment. Duke has been called to work vehicles, luggage, mailrooms, packages, warehouses, even airplanes. When not at work Duke spends hours playing in the backyard chasing the ball or trying to catch birds. He also LOVES to swim in the pond by our house. He is an energetic ball of love and has been the best partner anyone could ask for. Duke is excited to continue living the good life of playing, swimming, and enjoying his kong filled with peanut butter before bed every night. Working K9s perform a variety of occupations alongside their Handlers ensuring our public is safe from threats or danger, along with protecting our country domestically and abroad. They are typically classified as equipment with their medical needs NO longer funded once their service is completed. Often times they have accelerated health issues like hip dysplasia or PTSD as a result of their years in the field. Paws of Honor is a nonprofit providing continued quality routine and specialized veterinary care to ALL retired Military and Law Enforcement K9s no matter the department, agency, or branch of service at no cost to the Handler who becomes financially responsible for them upon retirement. Through Paws of Honor’s Veterinary Affiliates continued medical care is provided to each retired K9 enrolled in our Veterinary Care Program. Duke LeDuc

My partner in crime (prevention) goes by the name Duke LeDuc. He was born on January 29th 2017, to two presumably happy, ALLEGEDLY Labrador retriever parents. (He looks mixed) He was named in honor of Alexis LeDuc, a victim of the 911 tragedy. Alexis LeDuc was a family man, father, and avid toy collector who lost his life while working from the 97th floor of one of the twin towers. Duke who was close to one and a half when we first met in October of 2018 and began working together, is now almost seven years old. Once we graduated canine school, we returned home to Los Angeles California, stationed at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), under the current guidance of federal security director Jason Pantages. During our time working together we did numerous deployments to work and/or train such as San Francisco, San Diego, Seattle, Phoenix, Indiana, Philadelphia, and Auburn University. In his off time Duke loves going anywhere there’s wet grass to roll in. His favorite treats are anything in crumb form that may have fallen on the floor. If he had a part time job other than bomb sniffing, it would be finding food, he’s definitely a foodie. His favorite toys are anything that squeak and so far the wubba has lasted the longest. When he’s not working, eating, sleeping, pooping, or playing, he loves singing to Bruno Mars or The Weekend. Working K9s perform a variety of occupations alongside their Handlers ensuring our public is safe from threats or danger, along with protecting our country domestically and abroad. After a successful start in Explosives detection, the team transferred to Orlando International Airport. He also occasionally supported the United States Secret Service on over 10 missions all over the United States, during which he ensured the safety of multiple Presidents and other VIP's. In 2018 Jack deployed to support combat operations in Afghanistan. There he supported Infantry, Engineer and Special Forces units from multiple NATO allies. Jack earned his Combat Action Badge and eventually returned safely with his Handler. Jack now enjoys retirement with his Handler in San Antonio Texas, his favorite place is the couch next to his partner. His absolute favorite treat is Deer or wild hog Jerky that his owner makes specifically for him. He still enjoys daily walks and very short sessions of detection. While bite work was his favorite, his joints don't much like it anymore. Kept me and hundreds of people safe in Afghanistan. He prevented incidents, that would've almost guaranteed, ended with multiple people dead. SPONSORED BY: Paws of Honor has joined forces with Hurricane’s Heroes to help retired Military and Law Enforcement working K9s across the country receive the veterinary care they deserve! Jack is a very healthy and happy eleven-year-old Dutch Shepard. He came to me the same month my twins were born in 2016, so he has always been with them. Jack started his career with the Tucson Sector Border Patrol Tactical Unit (BORTAC) in 2016. Jacks mission in Tucson was primarily supporting the teams on the ground in the field and high-risk search warrants. In 2018 we transferred to the Detroit Sector Special Operations Detachment. While serving on the Detroit team, Jacks primary mission was supporting the entry team during high-risk search warrants and safely clearing structures with the entry team during their movements. Jack had a successful career on the southern and northern borders with multiple field deployments and several physical apprehensions. Jack retired at the age of nine and a half after a great career. He’s always been a part of our family since he entered service, but now he’s able to just be a dog. Jack enjoys long off leash walks with the family and going to the twins BMX races where everyone is always giving him attention. Our twins as well as the kids in the neighborhood are always climbing all over him and playing tug of war with his favorite tug toys. He’s always by our side and has always made the family feel safe. SPONSORED BY: Paws of Honor has joined forces with Hurricane’s Heroes to help retired Military and Law Enforcement working K9s across the country receive the veterinary care they deserve! Jet (formerly known as Marley) originally lived in a Texas shelter where he faced possible euthanization early in life. Jet’s prior first family was unable to keep him for unknown reasons. Fortunately, Jet was rescued by Ginger's Pet Rescue and brought to Seattle, Washington. The Seattle shelter contacted the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation, who quickly realized Jet would make a great search dog and was then picked up by The Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services' Office of Fire Prevention and Control. Jet joined the State's Urban Search and Rescue Team - New York Task Force 2, which included members of state and local emergency response agencies. Jet was then later located by another K-9 Trainer and tried for explosive detection. In early 2019, Jet was then paired up with a K-9 Handler with the Auraira Campus Police Department; in late 2019, the K-9 Handler accepted a position with another agency leaving Jet. With no turn around, Yama Gafari (Auraria Campus Police Department) took over the K-9 program and was paired up with Jet. Yama and Jet had an instant bond like no other and Jet knew his forever home would be with Yama. Yama took Jet’s training back to the basics and started an official K-9 academy through the Adams County Sheriff’s Office. Jet showed great drive and determination and this was the very start of an permanent and successful career at age 6. Since then, Jet has passed all of his certifications (state, national and federal) and has loved his new job, home and family. In late 2023, Jet officially retired at almost 11 years old. Jet does not like being retired one bit as Yama goes to work without him, but Jet still has his loving family including Yama’s wife, almost 2 year old son and daughter on the way.
